I grew up enjoying the beach and ocean, and decide to become a voluntary lifeguard at a very early age. False Bay Surf Lifesaving Club has become my second home, and having joined the committee in my later years and eventually becoming Chairman on the lifesaving club, where I led the Club to formally register as a Non-Profit Organisation, focussed on training and developing lifeguards directly from the community.

False Bay’s website was developed to showcase the groundwork the lifesaving club’s officials have put in, to promote lifesaving in general, and to promote the club and it’s current lifeguards. I targeted the site to anyone interested in becoming a lifeguard within Cape Town as the greater catchment area. The beautiful organic imagery from the lifesaving competitions and duty speaks wonders for new lifeguard recruitment.

I successfully implemented Google AdGrants for NPO’s, meaning the site get some 6000 global hits per month. With the help of a very talented voluntary social media crew, we managed to reach our first major milestone of 500 followers on Facebook. The site ranks on Google’s first page globally for “lifesaving club.” We are the Maintenance tasks include adding new lifeguard members to the “Meet our Lifeguard Heroes” section.
